Italian Style Beef







Sear 2 1/2 pounds shank meat in hot frying pan; place in casserole with 1 1/2 cups water, cover, and bake in oven 1 1/2 hours; add 2 small onions and 1 carrot, both sliced, cook 1 1/2 hours more, replenishing water if necessary; put meat on platter, and thicken the liquor with flour, add 1/2 cup catsup and 1 teaspoon mustard, pour over meat when portions are served.
