Split Pea Soup







Wash 1 cup split pease and soak overnight in cold water; boil with 2 quarts water and a marrow bone; adding, after it reaches a vigorous boil, 1 chopped onion; boil about 3 hours, strain and return to kettle, grate and add 1 turnip and 1 carrot, and season with salt and pepper; let it come to a boil and serve with croutons.
