Corn Bread






1 cup cornmeal
2 cups flour
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sweet milk
4 tablespoons sugar
5 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs, separated
Cream shortening and sugar together, and add yolks beaten light with a teaspoon cold water; sift together corn meal, flout, baking powder, and salt, and add alternately with milk to egg mixture; beat in egg whites; pour in greased bread pan and bake in moderate oven twenty to twenty-five minutes or until done.
