Boston Brown Bread






1 cup graham flour
1 cup white cornmeal
1 cup wheat flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup colasses
2 cups buttermilk
1 1/2 teaspoons soda
1 teaspoon salt
Mix cornmeal, flours, soda and salt; mix molasses, buttermilk and sugar, and add to dry ingredients; beat throughly and put into greased molds, such as large baking powder cans, two-thirds full; place covers on molds, set them upright in boiling water placed in a covered steamer; steam three to three and a half hours; remove covers and bake in oven five minutes, or until tops are dy and brown; remove from cans and wrap in clean cloth to cool. Slice cross-section to serve.
